Here's the setup
Alternative time clock event set to turn on at 6pm Alternative event will be started by button press. If user pushes button at 5 then event is triggered at 6. Yes What happens if user pushes button at 6:05 Will the time clock still engage or is it to late.

The time set is the 'trigger' that changes the state of the system, so no, it will not change anything. The system does not poll the timeclock when modes are changed to see what events should have happened. This logic can work on a fully automated system, but as soon as you throw in manual control, there are instances where it would not behave how the user intended.
Using the time clock in Ra 2 is an interesting business, because it's about as close as we, as programmers, get to conditional (ish) programming, but at the same time it can be extremely confusing for home owners (even tech savvy ones) as I recently found out on one of our larger jobs with a few time clock modes.

Thanks bradkas
That's what I figured. Just hoping I missed something. I'm still trying to figure out a Entertain scene issue.
1 Pushing Entertain button turns on scene 2 problem: yard light set to go off at 8:00pm on Normal TC event. Party goes to 10:00 Yard turn of during party.
Solutions:
A: HomeOwners turns yards back on during party. (doesn't go over good with HO)
B: the 2 button theory: one button puts TC in suspend second activates Scene, Then after the party HO pushes button 1 to unsuspend: Problem: I get a call 3 days latter saying "the yards don't come on anymore. What's wrong with your system!!!" because the HO did not remember to unsuspend.
Anyone with ideas around this, besides third party systems, or other systems. I want to push a button that deactivates a time clock and set a scene. I know CL.

Yeah mitche, I hear ya. Home owners not using time clock modes correctly has been the bane of my existence lately, so I plan on limiting their use from now on.
A possible 'fix' for your problem is having a button that returns the time clock to normal right under the 'Goodnight' button, and tell your homeowner to press both before bed.
Good luck.

Maybe not a elegant solution but what about an 8 pm timeclock event that activates a motion sensor outside linked to the yard lights? Theoretically the logic (yup, ye heard) would transition to sensor input leaving the light on if sensing motion (said party) and would turn off at 8 pm if not. It's the positioning of the sensor that is problematic.
