On the tabletop keypad, you can change the default battery-operated mode from "Wake-up and activate" to "Wake-up" so when a button is pushed in the middle of the night the keypad lights come on and you can see what you want to actually push.
I can't figure out how you're supposed to set this mode if you're using Essentials, though. If the keypad is programmed via PC, it doesn't go into programming mode, and there doesn't seem to be any way to change that setting in Essentials.
Does anyone know how to do this?

I'm still stumped on this. Anybody?

Thanks for the post! Unfortunately, it is not possible to program the tabletop keypads to change the programming activation function to occur on the 2nd press in either walkaround or PC-programming mode. Perhaps are you thinking of RadioRA classic? I believe this may have been the functionality in that system...

It was a feature of RA Classic and is a feature of walk-around programmed RA2 (via APM mode) but not via the PC. I will take this back to the RA2 team as a feature request.

Thanks. As a bedside keypad, it's pretty useless if you can't risk hitting, say, the Panic button and turning all the lights on when you really want to hit the Path to Bathroom key! You really need that tap to wake then press to activate mode.

I suppose you could just aim your 3:24 in the morning button-mash for the raise-lower buttons; going for the bottom left corner to hit the "lower" button. That way, when you hit it, you aren't turning on any lights and the keypad will light up for you
