I have installed about 10 RA dimmers and all without any major hitches, but the last two installs were used to switch receptacles in which I would plug 12 volt transformers for my garden lights. Everything worked during the test and then suddenly the switch froze on. Tried resetting, but no success. Then I swapped it out for another switch and it has worked fine, but when I wired the second one, it did the same thing, and the replacement switch also froze. Any suggestions as to why this happened?

Are you dimming or switching? With an 8ANS, you shouldn't have issues, but I could definitely see a scenario with Dimming. You are basically dimming that 12v transformer; is it an MLV or ELV transformer? And what dimmer are you using specifically (6D, 10ND, 6NA?)
I've recently solved a similar type of issue with 6NAs freezing on after about 3 months or so, but resetting with the FASS switch. The culprit was that I wasn't locking in the dimming-curve.
