I have tried and failed to get the ipad VPN connection working. Don't think it is a Lutron problem as we could log into the repeater through VPN from another source. Seems to be only from the iPad/iPhone that it doesn't work. Anybody had any luck?
Really don't wanna buy my client the big ugly VPN router in the app notes so any other router that might work?
Thx

Did you ever get this working? I'm hAving VPN issues also Network guy spent many hours trouble shooting Finally called time Warner cable andthey had to do internal Router stuff that network guy didn't have access to. We have a dyndns setup and I can log into it but still can't connect to my Ra system.

One of our CED guys has it up and running on his system, Blake D from CED San Diego. He had a networking guy come out and set it up for him. The problem he was running up against was the fact that the router he originally had would not support VPN, once he put in a new router all was well.
I will ask him to have his guy give me a call and see if there is anything else I am missing.

What specific VPN routers are you using and having issues with?

First let me say that this issue is off the table. After many hours of my time and Network guys time owner decided he really didn't need the VPN service after all.
But here is the issue. Timewarner cable. Standard house network. No stand alone VPN. DYNDNS account setup and working. IT guy didn't want to fork out for VPN since neither of us bid this. Customer just through it at us last minute. IT guy worked with TWC. TWC said VPN was built into their router and they had to change internal setting them self. This didn't work. 3 TWC techs visit job. Final TWC guy that came out did a bunch of calling and checking and in the end said get a dedicated VPN. I don't know where it stands since I left the job. I think IT guy may setup VPN because he wants remote access to his system. I hope he does so I can test my system.

Having read about the ugliness of VPN setup and challenges facing all stripes on contractors/integrators I thought I might toss in my two cents worth folks. Controllers like HAI Omni or Lumina offer very simple remote access through simply setup DDNS with no crazy VPN to lose sleep over. Philosophical question; why does one need to control only lighting from outside their LAN? HAI's, and similar controllers, can easily provide remote access to lighting, security, temperature, etc at a modest price point and maintain device status all the way. No "rocket science degree" required! Can use Snaplink for iPhone from HAI or sweeter looking HAIKU for iPad.

That being said, if those companies offer it via a free dyndns service, why is it such a problem to have available on a ra2 repeater?

Not sure if this is still an issue but I have this set up and running just fine. Took a little tinkering and had to set up my own vpn server. I can now turn my lights off and control my garage door from anywhere. It's a pain to connect to the VPN each time I want to do something though. If anyone is interested in the set up let me know.

Would you mind posting it up? I refer people here all the time, and I link the board in my email signature. People in SD always ask if they can access remotely.

I have many apps where I can remotely access some service on my network in a secure manner. I don't know why Lutron is turning this into rocket science by requiring VPN. Lutron should instead enhance the firmware on the main repeater and in the iPhone app to create a secure connection on its own. Having to rely on a VPN is like a giant band-aid.

With any luck, we'll see an easier way to remote login, @ CEDIA this year.

The iPad could be a mobile – movable - portable device that allocates us to have many applications in hand, to facilitate our daily lives. we are able to realize several uses for remote Access business solutions. The iPad isn't solely a tool to play or head to the net and surf the online and network. There’s a technology that's presently the biggest firms exploit daily and is termed Virtual Private Network or iPad vpn.

I also prefer hiding my identity using the VPN connection when using internet. I use best free vpn service named TotalVPN. It is one of the best services which are appropriate for phone and PC users. The speed offered is really good as compared to other free vpns.
