Why is Lutron not making an interface from a Classic RA system to a RA 2. You could hook the two main repeaters together to talk. Even down to RS232 if need be and limit the function of the cross control. This would allow us to migrate a system from classic to RA 2. This customer has about 50 devices or so and we need to add onto this system. I cannot tell him that his entire system has to be changed out at a material cost of over $10,000 and then I have to charge to change all of the device and reprogram the entire system. $20K to add two more rooms to his system, and if I hit 64 devices we cannot add again. I am seriously considering taking a RAMC-MFE and wiring it to a RR-VCRX so I can at least have a few functions from the classic system send some scenes to the RA 2. It really seems like a slap in the face to say that all systems put in 3 years ago have to be replaced. All they need to do is allow some phantom buttons to be assigned to the classic system.

I think the Contacts Closure on both ends is a good solution to accomplish ALL OFF/ALL ON type functionality... RadioRA2 has so much more than the classic product, it would be extremely difficult to make both work seamlessly. RA2 is much quicker than Classic, and mixing the two systems would result in two different system speeds/reaction times ( 3 different if you have a Chronos with 2 systems). I would persoanlly find it difficult to explain why the new wireless sensors only works on half the house, why pico remotes can't control everything at once, and why the iPad app is extremely fast on some dimmers, but slow to react on others. The Ra2 product would almost have to be "dumbed down" to make it function as a system.
I have programmed quite a few systems that have the wrong mix of products applied to the job ( 32 x 6 Zone GrafikRA's on a system anyone?), and I can say that the extra time to program a messy system, as well as callbacks to fix all of the oddities, are much more $$ than going with a new Ra2 system.
I see your point, and trust me, I know your pain. At some point though, everything needs to move forward with the newest technology, despite some unhappiness. I think we would have many more unhappy people if we had a bunch of RA2+Classic Hybrid systems out there. I can hear my phone ringing right now.

frankb4now, email your contact info to my Lutron email at rburnish@lutron.com. In a short while, we may have another way of approaching this. It is not yet official, but, when it is, I will contact you and get things rolling.
