Seems like it'd be pretty easy to do this, and it would give more flexibility for installations.

The existing keypads can be powered by low voltage. I believe the docs state 48v, but I've heard they can be powered successfully by as low as 24v. Maybe someone that's done this can comment?

Docs only specify 120v. There are some Sivoia QED keypads that are 24V compatible.
I'd think Lutron would want to make this very public if it where true that they are low-voltage compatible.

I found out about this at a previous PSP training and powering with low voltage was brought up by the instructor. He even suggested a manufacturer (non-Lutron) and model number to use for the power supply. I think there might be a white paper on it if you dig around.
